CSV Tools
CSV to JSON
Turn a CSV table into an array of JSON objects. The first row supplies property names, quoted fields are parsed correctly, and each later row becomes an object with string values.
✓ Every tool runs in your browser. We do not upload your input or output.
Keyboard shortcuts
Ctrl/⌘ + Enter: process
Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + F: full screen
Esc: exit full screen
Ctrl/⌘ + F in editor: search
How to use
- Paste CSV text, upload a .csv file, or load the sample table.
- Select comma, semicolon, or tab to match the file delimiter.
- Check the JSON output. Header names become object keys and every cell becomes a string.
- Correct any row-length or quoting error, then copy or download the resulting .json file.
Examples
Convert a small roster
Each data row becomes one object keyed by the header names.
name,team Avery,Platform Morgan,Data
[
{"name":"Avery","team":"Platform"},
{"name":"Morgan","team":"Data"}
]Read a quoted cell
The comma inside the quoted notes field stays in a single value.
name,notes Avery,"Works on API, docs"
[{"name":"Avery","notes":"Works on API, docs"}]From rows to records
CSV is common in exports, spreadsheets, and data handoffs. JSON is often easier to use in web applications and tests. This tool treats the first row as column headers and maps each following row to an object. The order of objects follows the order of CSV rows, and the order of properties follows the header row.
Quoted CSV fields can contain delimiters, doubled quotes, and line breaks. The parser handles those cases rather than splitting every line at a comma. If the result looks wrong, check the delimiter selector first; a semicolon-separated file parsed as comma-separated text will usually produce a single wide field or a row-length error.
Data types and cleanup
Every cell is a string, including values that look like numbers, dates, or booleans. That avoids changing identifiers such as 00123 into 123. Empty cells become empty strings. If your application needs numeric or date values, apply a schema after conversion. The converter checks that each row matches the header width and that headers are unique, which catches common export problems before the JSON enters your code.
Frequently asked questions
Does it infer numbers or booleans?
No. CSV has no reliable type information, so every cell is preserved as a string. Convert types in your application when you know the schema.
Does it support quoted line breaks?
Yes. A line break inside a quoted field remains part of that cell.
What if a row has too many fields?
The tool reports the row number and expected field count so you can fix the delimiter or the source row.
Can headers be empty or repeated?
No. Empty or duplicate headers would make ambiguous JSON keys, so the converter reports an error.
