Excel Tools
XLSX to JSON
Convert one XLSX worksheet into a JSON array of records. The first row supplies field names, each later row becomes an object, and every cell value is exported as text. Choose the sheet before processing; your file stays in your browser.
✓ Every tool runs in your browser. We do not upload your input or output.

Files and text stay in your browser. Review the result before downloading or sharing it.
How to use
- Choose an .xlsx workbook and select the worksheet that contains your table.
- Check that the first row has unique, non-empty column names.
- Create the JSON, inspect the preview, and download the records.
Examples
Prepare contacts for a script
The leading zeros remain in string values. The worksheet name and formatting are not part of the JSON result.
Sheet Contacts with headers id,name and rows 001,Avery and 002,Morgan
[{"id":"001","name":"Avery"},{"id":"002","name":"Morgan"}]Use the first row as a schema
JSON objects need field names. This tool takes those names from the first row of the selected worksheet. A table headed id, owner, and status becomes a list of objects with those three keys. Empty or duplicate headers are rejected so a value is not silently assigned to the wrong key. If a sheet contains notes above the table, remove them in the spreadsheet first or choose a cleaner sheet.
Every value is exported as a string. That means identifiers such as 00123 stay recognizable, and the JSON does not imply that a date or a rounded display value has a precise numeric type. It also means a consuming program should validate and convert fields it expects to be numbers or booleans. Blank cells become empty strings.
Workbook formatting, charts, formulas, and other worksheets are not preserved in JSON. A formula is not recalculated. Review the output against the source before using it in a data import. For a simple row-oriented file, XLSX to CSV may be a better destination.
Frequently asked questions
What becomes a JSON key?
The first visible row is used as the header row. Its cells must be non-empty and unique.
Are numbers typed as JSON numbers?
No. This tool exports displayed cell values as strings to avoid silently changing identifiers or formatted values.
Are formulas evaluated?
No. The tool uses a cached value when the XLSX file includes one and never runs workbook formulas.
Can I choose another worksheet?
Yes. The worksheet selector lists the sheets in the chosen workbook. One selected sheet is exported per download.
Does it upload the workbook?
No. Reading and conversion happen locally in a browser worker.
