How to use

  1. Paste HTML, upload an .html file, or load the sample card.
  2. Choose two spaces, four spaces, or tabs for indentation.
  3. Review the formatted markup and correct a reported parsing error if one appears.
  4. Copy or download the complete HTML after checking whitespace-sensitive sections.

Examples

Read a card component

Nested block elements become easier to scan in a code review.

Input
<div class="card"><h2>Hello</h2><p>Welcome</p></div>
Output
<div class="card">
  <h2>Hello</h2>
  <p>Welcome</p>
</div>

Keep an inline phrase together

Inline text stays together when splitting it would change visible spacing.

Input
<p>Read the <strong>guide</strong> first.</p>
Output
<p>Read the <strong>guide</strong> first.</p>

Make markup readable without running it

HTML copied from a response, template, or generated page is often compressed into a few long lines. The formatter adds a consistent layout so you can find nested sections, compare siblings, and inspect attributes. It accepts a fragment as well as a full document. Choose the indentation style that matches your project, then use Copy or Download to take the result back to your editor.

Formatting is performed as text in a Web Worker. The tool does not render the input as HTML in the site, load resources named in the markup, or execute embedded scripts. Your code remains in the browser. The input editor and output panel scroll independently, so a long document does not stretch the page.

Review changes that can affect meaning

HTML whitespace can matter around inline elements and in preformatted areas. The formatter tries to keep inline phrases readable while laying out block elements. Still, compare the result with the source when formatting templates, email HTML, or markup containing intentionally significant spaces. It may normalize quote style or line wrapping according to its formatting rules.

This tool uses a parser to understand HTML structure. A malformed closing tag or broken attribute may produce an error with a location. A successful format is not proof that the markup meets a document standard, works across browsers, or has accessible labels. Use a browser and an HTML validator for those checks. Embedded script and style code is not reformatted here; use the CSS Formatter for a standalone stylesheet.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool validate HTML?

It parses markup to format it and reports errors it encounters, but it is not a full conformance or accessibility validator.

Will it execute scripts in my HTML?

No. The input is treated as text and formatted in a browser worker; it is never inserted as live page markup.

Are scripts and styles inside HTML formatted?

Embedded language formatting is disabled. Script and style contents are left to dedicated tools.

Can formatting alter whitespace?

Yes. Review preformatted text, template syntax, and whitespace-sensitive content before replacing a source file.

Can I format a large document?

Yes. Processing runs outside the UI thread, and files over 1 MB wait for an explicit Process action.
